Mettler Toledo Assignment Manager

The assignment manager app is used by internal technicians who are often on the road travelling between customers for service appointments. Because they are always working remotely, they wanted an online mobile app that tracks their progress and pushes new work requests regardless of location.

Detailed information about the request, required components and contact information are displayed in our application.

1. Initial Conversations

We started off the project with a teleconference meeting. Our customer already had an idea of what they wanted; they presented a slide deck that contained the functionality needed to complete a work order and layout ideas for the workflow. It was extremely helpful to see their ideas presented in a visual, albeit basic, format. Although the proposed layout was not what we ended up with, it really helped us understand their thought process.

2. Blackberry Application

At the time of this project, Blackberry was first priority. We decided to use a basic list-detail pattern, customized to Mettler's branding colors. Although we could have provided a more visually appealing design, the customer was looking for something simple- this was good enough! This decision was also cost effective because the look and feel had already been used for another project. It was just a matter of adapting to Mettler's theme. We went through several more meetings with the customer for UI feedback. In the end, the customer was extremely happy with the Blackberry implementation.

3. iOS Application

When we received news that Mettler was considering an iOS application, we started implementing an offline prototype. Unlike the Blackberry application, this had no online connection and was simply a demo. We wanted to show our customer how quickly we could adapt the design to another native platform.
